Obituary for William Hasting Lloyd

William Hasting Lloyd, known as Kyri in his later years, was born on December 7th in 1950. Ever since that day he never let anyone forget about his grand entrance into this world, as he effortlessly charmed everyone. He was always full of songs to sing and play, lessons to teach, or stories to tell. Some of those stories might even had been true. To this day, we aren’t sure. To be honest, there are still debates about how he lost his leg. He told so many, "There I was..." tales about it, that at least one of them had to be true, right?
He passed away in his sleep on Monday, January 22nd, in 2018. Still in this world are the love of his life his wife Freya, his only son Christopher, and Freya’s children Alden and Stephen (to whom he was a glorious father and raised them right, as the saying goes). Alden is married to his wonderful wife Stephanie and their children, Katrina and Maximillian, were spoiled rotten by him every chance he got. His nephew Michael and his wife Heather’s children, Althea and Amelia, were also no stranger to Uncle Billy’s laughter and song.

While not a man of faith himself as time went on, and he experienced a few in his journey, there are still smiles to be had when we think he is now catching up with the rest of his family who passed before him: his father William, his mother Ladelle, and his brother Bobby (with whom he is probably playing some Beatles right now).

A private memorial service is being held by the family, where all of the best stories will be retold by those who we there. It will be a day full of song and love, just as Kyri would have wanted it to be. He was a lot of things, but it can be said without question how much of an inspiration he has been to anyone who has ever met him, and some who haven't. May the legend of this man never be forgotten!

"A man tells his stories so many times that he becomes the stories. They live on after him. And in that way, he becomes immortal." William Bloom, Big Fish (A movie which at times felt like a biopic of Mr. Lloyd, my father.)

“This wonderful circus of a family misses you, old man. Yours is a story we plan to tell for years to come. May it be even larger than that life than you lived, which is an impossible task it seems. But we are up to the task.” ~ Chris, his son.
