Obituary for Donald Lester Wolters

Donald Lester Wolters, age 62, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018. He was born May 21, 1956 in Memphis, Tennessee to Norman and Margaret (Perdzock) Wolters.
He is survived by his daughter Jennifer (Joshua) Wolters, and his son Jeremy (Erica) Wolters; granddaughter, Sophie Wolters; bonus grandchildren Tristan, Gracie, and Myla; his sister Helen (Michael M.) Coulon; his brothers David Wolters and Tim (Cindy) Wolters. He also leaves behind his fur-child, Gracie May.
He is preceded in death by his mother Margaret Ann Wolters, father Norman Alvin Wolters, and brother Peter Joseph Wolters.

Don was a 1974 graduate of Bishop Byrne High School. In his twenties, he worked in grocery store management, changing to a career in carpentry during his thirties and forties. He was a skilled craftsman in trim carpentry, staircases, and cabinetry. He had a knack for woodworking and found this to be an enjoyable profession. In his fifties, his health and body began to deteriorate. He was diagnosed with several medical conditions, ultimately becoming disabled. In 2011 he moved from Memphis, Tenn to Murfreesboro, Tenn to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Don loved the idea of the Old West, having seen probably all of John Wayne’s movies. He loved reading Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey novels as well as the Bible. He did most of his reading on the porcelain convenience and kept an ongoing prayer list in the lavatory, finding that to be a place conducive to meditation and concentration. He loved music, mostly country, and could whistle, sing, play the guitar and harmonica. He also had an amazing voice. He was a great joke-teller and prankster. In his younger years, he had a fierce loyalty to Dr. Pepper, but later made a health-conscious switch to Diet A&W Root Beer. This was his only successful health sacrifice, as he found he could not give up his primary diet of meat-and-potatoes, nor his Marlboros. He also loved animals, primarily dogs and cats, but had provided a loving home to others over the years, including two ferrets, a cockatiel, a guinea pig, 2 hamsters, a gerbil, and a few rabbits. He adored fall weather and the Great Smoky Mountains. Per his wishes, a memorial gathering will be held October 13-15, 2018 in the Smoky Mountains where his ashes will be spread.
