Obituary for Matthew Joel Catalano

Matthew J. Catalano departed this life on May 26, 2018, while in a
peaceful sleep. Matthew was 31 years young. Born January 7, 1987,
in Murfreesboro, TN, he was the second child of Debra A. Ransom
and the late M. Joel Catalano. He resided in Murfreesboro his entire
life.
Matthew was known as a joyful young man with a heart for all. He
enjoyed computers, gaming, automobiles, animals, and most of all,
spending time with his loved ones. Matthew’s ability to be the light
in a storm allowed everyone to love him and be loved by him. His
friends would describe him as, “’a big teddy bear who had a big heart
and would do anything for his family and friends. He had a sense of
humor, a personality that could cheer up and brighten anyone's day, and the ability make you
laugh uncontrollably;’ ‘No one will ever be like Matt. He was the kindest, most honest soul
you’ve ever met.’” Matthew’s loved ones describe him as, “a family man who was loyal,
amorous, dependable, strong, witty, resilient, talented, and above all, protective.”
Matthew attended Bradley Elementary School, Central Middle School, and graduated from
Blackman High School in 2005. While attending Blackman High School, he was a member of
the ROTC and Blaze Band. After high school, Matthew studied Information Technology
Business Systems. Matthew enjoyed online gaming and as his mother states, “(He was) a serious
online competitor of Call of Duty and League of Legends.”
Matthew was preceded in death by his grandfather, Edward L. Morris of Fulton, MS; and father,
M. Joel Catalano of Murfreesboro, TN. He is survived by his wife, Megan Gordon; stepdaughter,
Julia; step-son, Tyler; mother, Debra Ransom; step-father, Grover Ault—all of
Murfreesboro, TN; grandmother, Martha Morris of Fulton, MS; sister, Sarah Easterly, her
husband Karl, his children Gabriel and Zoe, and their child Edward of Lascassas, TN; uncle,
Danny Morris, his wife Ari and their child Luke of Charleston, SC; and cousin, Danielle Morris-
Holloway of Murfreesboro, TN.
A Remembrance Event for Matthew J. Catalano is currently pending. The family appreciates
thoughts and prayers during this time of one who passed away too soon. “‘God blesses those
who mourn, for they will be comforted.’ (New Living Translation, Matthew 5:4)”
